PIP Re-Assessments for Over 65s to Cease

From this Spring people over 65 who receive Personal Independence Payments will no longer have to undergo regular reviews to continue receiving the benefit.

The change, which was announced recently by Amber Rudd, the Work and Pensions Secretary, is set to affect 270,000 people. In a speech about welfare benefit reforms to disability charity Scope with the intention of “changing the landscape for disabled people in Britain” ,Amber Rudd also announced plans to increase a government target for getting a million more younger disabled people into work by 2027.

Scope Chief Executive Mark Hogkinson said afterwards in Scope’s report on the speech. “It is right that today’s speech from the Secretary of State seeks to address some of the many barriers disabled people face in Britain today, but far more progress needs to be made before disabled people are truly equal. With over 2 in 3 PIP decisions at appeal being overturned, there needs to be much bolder reform of the system. ”

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
