A petition has been set up by a Sheffield citizen to protest at discrimination against disabled drivers in the city’s major new roads upgrading scheme.
Streets Ahead is a huge city-wide highways maintenance contract that is upgrading and then maintaining the condition of city’s roads, pavements, street lights, bridges and other items on or around the streets and is the largest highway investment contract ever seen in Sheffield, worth £2bn.
However, Ann-Marie Marshall claims that they have resurfaced ‘on street parking zones’ across Sheffield but have not included “disabled bays” which is discriminatory . Ann-Marie has started the petition to send to Julie Dore, the leader of Sheffield City Council. It has so far got over 160 signatures.
“Disabled adults, children and carers should be able to shop locally, meet friends and support local businesses. Without “disabled bays”, this makes it difficult and is discriminatory” says Ann-Marie.
