October is Black History Month

October is Black History Month

This year’s Off the Shelf literary festival features a number of events taking place during October to celebrate Black History Month , which highlights the enormous contribution Black Britons have made to our vibrant and diverse society. Our culture has been enriched and our society has been made stronger because of the people who travelled here to build new lives in the UK, as well as the achievements and contributions of their descendants. See below for some of the events highlighted to celebrate Black History Month 2020:

My Name is Why – Lemn Sissay In conversation with Auriel Majumdar

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
