Northern Ballet's specialist wheelchair dance programme returns

Let your creativity flourish and gain the confidence to move in new ways through Northern Ballet’s specialist wheelchair dance programme, In Motion.

Classes are designed to develop your strength, flexibility and creative expression through the use of unique training methods.

Working in a supportive environment with expert teachers, you can explore movement either in or out of a wheelchair and be inspired to create your own movement.

Classes are suitable for self-propelling wheelchair users (manual or powered which the user controls themselves, without the assistance of someone else) and are split into two age groups; those aged 8 – 19 years and those aged 19 and over.

Specialist dance/sports wheelchairs are not required as we have a number available to use in classes should you wish.

One participant who took part in the 2017 classes said that “The course exceeded my expectations.. it’s brilliant to be able to whiz around in a wheelchair at some speed and in much more interesting ways that I usually do at home… The standard of teaching is high and staff have been supportive, flexible and adaptable to our needs. The course has challenged me and enabled me to improve so many things!”

2019 classes will run from 7 April – 7 July and cost £6.50 (8-19 year-olds) or £7 (Adult classes) per session. A 10% discount is available for Breeze Card holders.

Absolutely brilliant! This is my 3rd year there and I’d love it to be available in Sheffield. No need to have any previous dance experience. It is NOT just for females, and you can forget any ideas of it being ‘airy-fairy’ stuff!

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
