Making our Conversations Count

Sheffield City Council has released its report into adult social care for 2018 – and say that although it has been ‘challenging’ due to a combination of financial cuts and increasing demand they are still making progress.

Adult Social Care helps people over the age of 18 to get the care and support they need to remain independent, safe and well. This includes care and support for adults, older people, adults with a learning disability, adults with autism and adults with a mental health condition. They also provide support for carers and for families with a disabled young person.

However, they now aim to “bring together all the services that support children, young people and adults with a disability, to make sure all citizens can access all areas of the city and all parts of city life’ and make sure these services are provided ‘seamlessly’.”

For the 2018-2020 improvement plan the focus of their work will be:
● increasing independence and inclusion.
● increasing the shift to prevention.
● increasing adults able to live at home.
● developing a sustainable provider market.
● ensuring fairer charging.

You can read the full report here. If you would like it in an alternative format you can telephone (0114) 273 4119. Anyone who has any queries or requires more information about the report can either telephone the same number, email information@sheffield.gov.uk or write to Information Service. Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
