Lobby Against Benefit Cuts to ESA

Today disabled people from across the country are lobbying parliament to reverse planned changes to employment support allowance ( ESA )in April 2017. These changes would remove the additional benefit component from future ESA claimants who are placed in the work related activity group – meaning a 30% cut of nearly £30 a week compared to what existing claimants receive today. The timing is crucial with the committee stage for the Welfare Reform and Work Bill having concluded on Tuesday January 12th but with their report unwritten at the time of the lobby. That report, once written, will then be debated on the floor of the commons on the 25th and 27th of January where MPs will have the chance to vote against clause 14 of the bill, which refers to the Universal Credit limited capability for work element. When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
