Know your Rights as a Carer

Know your Rights as a Carer

This year’s Carers Rights Day campaign on Thursday 25 November will focus on raising awareness of the rights that unpaid carers have. The pandemic has had a massive impact on the lives of carers, affecting access to services, the ability to juggle work and care and much more. That’s why it’s more important than ever that carers are aware of what they have the right to.

Carers need to know their rights wherever they are in their caring journey … in the workplace … in a healthcare setting … when interacting with professionals … or at home. The campaign provides carers with information and support, so they are confident asking for what they need, and know how to challenge things when their rights are not being met.

Sheffield Carers Centre and Sheffield Young Carers want carers to understand they are not alone and that every carer has rights which can help to make their lives easier and say:

“Whether you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, it’s important you understand your rights and can access available support when you need it, The main aims of Carers Rights Day are to (1) help ensure carers are aware of their rights (2) let carers know where to get help and support (3) raise awareness of the needs of carers.”

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
