Sheffield Talking News ( STN ) has been finding creative new ways of working during the Coronavirus outbreak and wants all their listeners to be able to continue listening.
STN has temporarily suspended their memory stick service but the good news is that listeners can still hear all their recordings completely free of charge. These include the Weekly News, Magazine and ‘Out & About in Sheffield’ interviews. Recordings can be accessed over the telephone or through various online sources.
To listen on the telephone simply dial (0114) 383 0345 and select from the spoken menus. Calls are charged at local rates .Many tariffs offer periods when local calls are free, for instance in the evenings or at weekends, so if that applies it’s a good idea to listen then. These periods typically last for one hour so the service is designed to cut-off just before one hour is reached. You can then re-dial the number for a further free hour and the system should pick up playing from where you left off.
If you have Alexa, just say ‘Alexa, enable my Talking Newspaper’ and follow the instructions.
You can also listen to all recordings online.
There is a free app called ‘Talking Newspaper’ which can be downloaded for smartphones and can be found free on Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
The charity is also on Twitter @SheffieldTN and Facebook .
If anyone gets stuck volunteers will always be pleased to help if you call (0114) 278 0440 and leave a message on their answerphone, or email STN at stnmail@sheffieldtalkingnews.org.uk
There is never a need to stop listening to your favourite news from STN.
