It's not Time to Relax - It's Not over Yet

Greg Fell, Director of Public Health at Sheffield City Council, explains the importance of continuing to follow the official guidance, after the latest relaxation of lockdown restrictions, to avoid a second wave of infection.

In the video Coronavirus – Why you should still adhere to the restrictions Greg explains that the lockdown release is “being done in a really careful, slow, measured and conditional manner.”

“If we all start to break the guidelines, the lockdown may well be imposed again, and that’s something that we want to avoid, just as much as we want to avoid the second peak.”

Talking about the dangers of not adhering to the lockdown measures currently in place Fell explains that if the current measures are ignored “we’ll all spread the virus really quickly… and we’ll get a second peak.”

In the video Greg sets out the three ‘keys to success’ which are the ways the people of Sheffield can best avoid a second peak, they are:

  • Practice social distancing
  • Use Track and Trace
  • Self-isolation

Speaking about the self-isolation guidelines Greg explains that research has shown up to 50% of people with Coronavirus symptoms or who are living with someone with symptoms, and who should therefore be self-isolating at home, are not doing so. This is particularly concerning says Fell, as self-isolation is the most effective way to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
