Sheffield Safe Places has produced a new video highlighting the importance of taxis and public transport for breaking social isolation and how loneliness can have a severe effect on people’s health.
Safe Places aims to support adults who may feel vulnerable when they are out and about in Sheffield. If someone needs help, for example if they are lost, ill or frightened, then they can enter the nearest safe place to get help.
The video states that loneliness can be a bigger killer than a lifetime of smoking and is likely to increase your chance of death by 26%. It adds that one in three vulnerable people don’t see or speak to anyone during the week.
“We created this video to help people understand the importance of making transport accessible for everyone and to ensure people have healthy and fulfilling lives,” they say.
