Royal Mencap Society has launched their new national campaign: ‘Here I Am’. This hard-hitting and very visual campaign challenges people’s perceptions of learning disability.
Recent research carried out by Ipsos found that:
- Just one third of people would feel comfortable sat next to someone with a mild learning disability, or during a show or concert.
- Out of more than 2,000 people surveyed, 27 per cent thought that disability was a form of mental illness.
- Six per cent said they would feel uncomfortable using the same swimming pool as someone with a more severe learning disability.
As part of this campaign there will be a surge in media attention as Royal Mencap show a film on TV adverts, in cinemas and on YouTube. Here is the link to their Youtube video ( the guy in the film is a DJ from Huddersfield ).
In addition to this a number of photos photos have been commissioned by the famous photographer Rankin.
