This year May Bank Holiday falls on Friday 8th May marking the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) day.
Although many of the planned events celebrating the anniversary have been cancelled or postponed people throughout the UK are being encouraged to celebrate and acknowledge the anniversary at home.
The Royal British Legion is calling on people across the UK to join in a moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am and pause for a Two Minute Silence.
VEday75.org is encouraging people to join the Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm from the safety of their own home by raising a glass of refreshment saying to “those who gave so much, we thank you “, using this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.
This includes acknowledging the contribution of numerous disabled people such as Sir Douglas Bader and General George Patton and at the highest level of command, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and American President Franklin D Roosevelt.
Another way you could take part in celebrations is by joining your BBC Local Radio station initiative in making your own VE Day Great British Bunting. Download everything you need here.
