Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm when we vote for our next government on Thursday 4 July.
Local authorities have to ensure that the voting experience is accessible for everyone. We’ve been liaising with Sheffield City Council Electoral Services and we’re making you aware of important reminders and deadline dates in June that may affect you, if you wish to cast your vote, perhaps in an alternative way.
Make sure you are registered to vote.
The deadline for receiving applications to register to vote is Tuesday 18 June.
Check you have the correct Voter Identification
Voter identification is required in England and all voters will need to bring photo ID to vote at polling stations. All voters will be asked to show ID before their ballot paper is issued. This does not affect postal voters. If you do not have valid Photo ID you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC), the deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
To vote by postal proxy or post or cancel/amend a postal proxy or postal vote
You must be registered to vote and the deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June
New applications to vote by proxy ( when someone votes on your behalf )
The deadline for receiving is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
You can find detailed information to check or apply for any of the above at https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/voting .
The page also has supporting information for deaf people, bind and partially sighted people and in Easy Read.
Accessibility Requests
There are no specific legal deadlines for making accessibility requests for voting at a polling station. However we recommend people contact Sheffield City Council Electoral Services well in advance if you wish to ask for something other than the items provided at all Sheffield polling places as described here.
