Parkinson’s UK have announced that they will be offering their free self-management programme in Sheffield this spring.
Delivered over 6 weeks (2 ½ hours per week) their self-management groups are led by trained volunteer facilitators. These facilitators are either people with Parkinson’s and/or current carers of people with the condition.
Each group brings together 12 people with Parkinson’s, partners and carers. Groups meet locally for six sessions of discussion, activity and self-reflection on some of the bigger questions about life with Parkinson’s.
Participants say that as a result of attending the programme they feel:
- armed with information and knowledge
- more confident, positive, in control and able to move forward
- less alone as a result of meeting others
- they have greater self-awareness and insight
- they have improved speech as a result of talking in the group
- they have gained a personal action plan for doing specific things such as exercise, hobbies and therapeutic activities
The programme is FREE to attend and partners/carers are very welcome as full participants.
