Free Dance to Health Sessions

If you are an older person who has had a fall or is worried about falling, Dance to Health is a FREE and fun falls prevention session. No Dance experience is necessary!

You can take steps to prevent falls by attending Dance To Health sessions held at several Sheffield venues.

The new programme for older people combines physiotherapy with the creativity, expression and energy of dance. The groups are led by trained Dance Artists who aim to make each session not only beneficial but also fun.

Dance sessions are taking place at St Augustine’s Church on Brocco Bank, Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre and Verdon Street Recreation Centre (women-only sessions).

The social aspect of the Dance to Health programme is just as important as the dance. All the sessions include a 30-minute refreshment period where everybody can sit and have a drink, and a chat. This means that the programme also offers additional benefits such as reducing social isolation. View Dance to Health Newsletter .

Why not pop along to one of the sessions? Sessions last 60 – 90 minutes, with 30 minutes for refreshments at the end.

To find out more about the programme and how to sign up for the taster session or the sessions generally call Nesreen Shah, Dance to Health Coordinator Sheffield on 01993 870 159, email NesreenShah@ae-sop.org or visit Dance to Health .

Thank you for your comment about our Dance to Health news item. It is still worth contacting Nesreen Shah, Dance to Health Coordinator Sheffield on 01993 870 159 or by emailing NesreenShah@ae-sop.org to ask her if she knows if the programme will be available in Rotherham at any time in the future.

Active Always does offer Strength and Balance Classes and Gentle to Moderate Exercise Classes in Rotherham as detailed in their attached brochure which may be of interest. There is also a website Rotherham Get Active :Active for Health where you can be referred if you have certain health conditions.

We hope that you find this information helpful and we’d be grateful if you could please reply to let us know that you have received our response.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
