Families Lobbying and Advising Sheffield (FLASh) have announced that under the new care tender, there is no funding available for them or the Sharing Caring Project leaving them without admin support, funding for postage and possibly their ability to communicate with and gain case studies from carers.
Despite this, members of the FLASh committee say they are keen to carry on the tasks they deem to be important.
They have launched a new email address: flashld575@gmail.com which they would like carers to use to tell them about successes and problems in their caring lives, for themselves and the person being cared for.
“If patterns are found in the comments we receive , FLASh will take the findings to various places of influence, such as, The Learning Disability Partnership Board, the Learning Disability and Carer Service Improvement Forums (SIFs), Phil Holmes, the Director of Adult Social Services and the responsible councillor for adults, currently Cate McDonald.
Unfortunately, FLASh have to emphasise that they cannot take up individual cases.
If FLASh succeed at this level, we are hoping to find ways of doing harder jobs such as Meet the Managers, Carer Clinics, and the formal Carer Surveys which helped to reveal the grave problems faced by carers.”
If any carers would like to join as members of the core group, please contact flashld575@gmail.com and the group will contact you as soon as possible.

I can’t believe you have your funding stopped. You have challenged the council vigorously on behalf of carers.I was about to bring a problem to your attention regarding the sleep in rate charged at one of the privately run group home organisations. Are you still able to represent groups of service users on issues like this?
Thanks for all your hard work, best wishes Louise
