Equality and Discrimination Issues

The Equality Advisory Support Service, ( EASS ) which advises and assists individuals on issues relating to equality, human rights and discrimination, has released its latest engagement newsletter.

During July, August and September, the EASS helpline received 12,161 calls, 2,804 emails and 24 letters approximating 4,898 cases of possible discrimination. The vast majority of these – 71% – were about disabled people’s rights.

This October edition contains detailed Helpline statistics and reports on some recent trends around new school arrangements, reflecting the move back to school following the summer holidays and a rise in complaints from individuals diagnosed with cancer, concerning their employer’s poor reaction to their diagnosis.

You can read some EASS success stories on their homepage and get general information and guidance to help you understand how the Equality Act works and how it may be relevant to your situation in the Advice and Support section of their website.

If you want to contact EASS for advice and support you can do so by freephone telephone on 0808 800 0082, textphone 0808 800 0084 or message the service here.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
