DPAC Sheffield In Benefits Uplift Campaign Call

DPAC Sheffield In Benefits Uplift Campaign Call

The Sheffield branch of campaigning organisation Disabled People Against Cuts has produced a survey which can be filled in anonymously by anyone affected by changes to benefits during the Coronavirus pandemic.

DPAC Sheffield is part of the protest about people on legacy benefits – which include income based Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefits – not being eligible for the £20 uplift in Unversal Credit announced near the start of the pandemic.

Although it is believed that the UC uplift will remain after the Government’s Spring Budget, DPAC said: “Yet again the needs of disabled people have been overlooked. whether it’s DPAC’s #20More4All campaign, the Disability Benefit Consortium’s #IncreaseDisabilityBenefits or Unite Community’s #UniveralDiscredit campaign, we are all calling for the same thing.”

DPAC are calling for people to write to their MP and have produced a template letter.

You can see and fill in the DPAC Sheffield survey here.

There will also be a second Day Of Action against the possible ending of the uplift. This will take place on Monday March 1, two days before the Government’s Budget is announced.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
