It’s important to us that we keep you up to date with what’s been happening over the last few weeks at Disability Sheffield.
In response to the COVID19 outbreak we have made some changes to the services we provide so that we can better respond to the needs of disabled people we work with. All our staff are working remotely from home. Our advocacy work continues but is limited to regular telephone contact and support for our existing advocacy clients and new referrals. We still provide an information service and post news on our website and social media . There’s a dedicated page on our website with information for disabled people related to Coronavirus including easy-read resources. We’ve also produced an information sheet of FAQs including guidance from Sheffield City Council on the use of direct payments during this period.
In addition we are supporting people who employ their own Pas to provide social care support. We’ve set up a PA register for people in need of short term/emergency support. If you’re looking for a PA or you’re a PA/social care worker offering additional hours we can match you up. You can contact us with a request for personal protective equipment or if you need an authorisation letter confirming that a named PA is a key worker.
We’re offering peer support for people with a learning disability by piloting a virtual coffee morning on Zoom every Tuesday and Thursday. Sadly it’s not been possible for Sheffield Cycling 4 all to keep their cycling sessions open but you can still stay in touch with their regular posts on how to keep active at home.

All of our staff, volunteers and trustees hope that you are staying safe and keeping well. If you are in need of support or information you can contact us by emailing CV19@disabilitysheffield.org.uk or phoning 0114 2536750. We are a small team so the phone will not always be answered straight away but if you leave a message we will return your phone call the same day.
