Disabled people in South Yorkshire are hoping to hold the first festival of its kind in the UK next summer – and are looking for financial support to make their dream come true.
No Limits, scheduled to take place in Barnsley from 4-12 July 2020, is being described as a celebration of disabled people and their contribution to life as workers, family, volunteers, friends, neighbours, entrepreneurs, artists, performers, athletes, and professionals. The festival will celebrate the contribution disabled people make to life in our towns, neighbourhoods and communities, challenging people’s perceptions of disability and what disabled people can achieve.
They intend to hold exhibitions, theatre, dance, sports, circus, music, walks, games, talks, conferences and much more), at every major venue in the borough. They are already fundraising and are aiming to transverse the Trans Pennine Trail on June 7 and 8 this year. One of those taking part is Jamie Preece (pictured) a member of and volunteer for Sheffield Cycling 4 All, who says: “I have never cycled 18 miles, let alone up and down Barnsley’s hills, but a project like this festival is well worth the effort!”
Jamie has his own sponsorship page and the organisers are hoping that other people will participate, either by taking part, volunteering as a helper on the day or by sponsoring or donating.
