Deaf And Blind People's Anger At Lack Of Access

Deaf And Blind People's Anger At Lack Of Access

People from blind and deaf communities say they have been left feeling isolated, scared and at risk due to a lack of access to vital information during the coronavirus crisis.

A group of charities, led by Action On Hearing Loss and the
Royal National Institute of Blind People told the Government they’re concerned over the way the particular needs of disabled people are not being taken into consideration in official communications.

And for blind people, who find many social distancing measures a challenge, there are calls to be considered as vulnerable, so they can get priority access for online shopping.

A feature on this subject was recently shown on Channel 4 News with among those interviewed being Professor Katherine-Runswick-Cole from The University Of Sheffield.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
