Cuts to Social Care Leave Older People Fending for Themselves

The BBC reports on the massive pressure being put upon the social care system and the resulting strain being put on both the elderly and their carers. A report published by the Nuffield Trust in partnership with The Kings Fund highlights how access to care depends increasingly on what people can afford – and where they live – rather than on what they need. Furthermore, the number of over-65s being helped by councils had fallen by a quarter in four years to 2014, despite more people now needing help due to the ageing population. The Nuffield Trust summarises the report stating that the picture that has emerged is of “social care providers under pressure, struggling to retain staff, maintain quality and stay in business; local authorities making unenviable choices about where to make reductions… and a voluntary sector keeping services going even when funding was curtailed.”

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
