Council Tax Rises Will Not Fix Social Care Funding Crisis Warns LGA

Council tax rises to pay for social care in 2016/17 will not bring in enough money to alleviate the growing pressure on vital services caring for elderly and disabled people, the Local Government Association (LGA) warns. The LGA said nine in ten councils in England are considering or have approved plans to raise £372 million for underfunded social care services in 2016/17 by using new powers to increase council tax by 2 per cent. Council leaders are therefore calling for the Chancellor to use his Budget next month to – at the very least – bring forward the £700 million of new funding earmarked for social care through the Better Care Fund by the end of the decade to 2016/17 View article.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
