Sheffield City Council and disability sport charity, Within Reach, recently celebrated 17 years of partnership working to promote, improve and provide sporting opportunities for disabled people in Sheffield. At the celebration event more than 400 disabled children and adults, took part in a festival of sport, with various activities throughout the day. Activities included wheelchair basketball, dance, race-running, cricket, athletics, football, bowling, golf, boccia, curling, tennis and table tennis.
Chair of Within Reach, Mike Elliott, received a presentation of thanks, in recognition for his 30 years of hard work and commitment to making sport and exercise inclusive and accessible to disabled people in the city. In additional groups from across Sheffield performed dance and musical routines showcasing their talent and hard work over the last year.
Among those in attendance included the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Anne Murphy, former professional football referee, Uriah Renee and three-time national champion disabled table tennis player, Farryl Anthony.
