There are 65,000 unpaid carers in Sheffield from the age of 5 to 95. Sheffield Carer’s Centre has taken the opportunity during Carers Week this week to say a huge thank you to all carers in Sheffield who provide so much invaluable support in the city, especially in these challenging times for everyone when the care and support provided by carers has been needed more than ever.
Their Carer News Carers Week edition highlights their Do you Care Campaign trying to reach people who do not recognise that they are carer, so that they know how to get support with their caring role. They also want to hear from carers about their experiences of providing care and support during lockdown and what you will need looking forward. It may involve a 1:1 conversation by phone or a small group discussion online.
The Carer Advice Line is open Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm. Phone 0114 272 8362 to speak with a Carer Adviser about anything related to your caring situation or email support@sheffieldcarers.org.uk .
If you’re between 8 and 25 years old and you help to look after one or more family members who have disabilities, long-term illnesses, mental health needs or alcohol/drug problems, you can get in touch with Sheffield Young Carers here .
Whilst face to face group activities offered by Sheffield Carer’s Centre are on hold, more online activities and groups are being set up so that carers can still meet other in ‘virtual space’ using Zoom.
You can check their Facebook page for Zoom joining codes or email jan@sheffieldcarers.org.uk for an invitation or for help using Zoom.
