Are you deaf and into acting? If so you could benefit from a new course being held this summer.
BSL Acting Intensive is described as ‘a fun, practical and intensive week of deaf-led actor training, designed specifically for deaf actors.’
This five-day course is created by the Royal Central School Of Speech and Drama and Deafinitely Theatre in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company..
It will take place from Monday 15th July to Friday 19th July 2024, in person at the School. which is part of the University Of London.
Those taking part will work on exercises and improvisations to approach acting challenges within an ensemble/ There will also be practical workshops in Acting Fundamentals, Translation, Movement, Visual Vernacular and Acting for Camera.
The course will be led by Paula Garfield, Artistic Director of Deafinitely Theatre, and Jenny Sealey MBE, Artistic Director of Graeae Theatre Company, alongside actor trainers from Central. As part of the course, you can also find out more about other BSL acting courses currently in development at Central.
It is suitable for those with some previous acting experience. Applicants will need to be a minimum of BSL Level 3 or equivalent or be native signers. Whilst the course is primarily aimed at deaf actors, there will be a limited number of places also open to hearing actors, with experience of deaf culture and BSL Level 3 or equivalent.
The course is open to people aged 18 and over, is fully funded and there is no fee to take part.
