After a meeting with the Spinal Injuries Association the former care minister, Norman Lamb MP, has called on the government to urgently review the growing trend of placing limitations on the size of stay at home care packages by raising an Early Day Motion (EDM).
EDMs are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. They allow MPs to draw attention to an event or cause and register their support by signing individual motions.
These ‘choice, equity and affordability’ policies are the latest threat to care and support packages which are impacting on the well-being of working age disabled people and their ability to maintain independent living. MP’s who support this EDM will be stating that ‘they believe such policies will undermine the health and independent living chances of people relying on a large care package’.
The Spinal Injuries Association is asking all disabled people to take a moment to ask their MP to sign up to this EDM as they believe it is of vital importance to all people who rely on a care and support package.
You can use this template letter/email or choose to write to them in your own words to explain what an important issue this is to you and disabled people.
You can find the contact details of your MP here, and the full text of the EDM can be read online here.
