The Disability Hub joins forces with Healthwatch Sheffield’s Health & Wellbeing Forum on Monday 2nd December 2019 from 1:30pm-4:00pm at The Circle,33 Rockingham Lane S1 4FW to explore how financial pressures and hardship are impacting on people’s ability to keep themselves well.
This event marks the International Day Of Persons With Disabilities , which takes place on Tuesday 3rd December this year and was established by the UN in 1992 to spread the word on disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of disabled people.
Poverty is a driver of health inequality and there are a significant number of people in Sheffield living in poverty. The average proportion of Sheffield households in poverty is 23.3% after housing costs. Around 50% of people in poverty are either disabled or living in a household with a disabled person. Working-age carers also face higher poverty rates than average if they provide over ten hours of informal care a week. These figures are supplied by the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment which provides over-arching information on the current and future health and wellbeing needs of Sheffield people.
The Big Squeeze is focusing on financial hardship as ‘living well’ is a key priority in the Sheffield Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Join us for information sharing, dialogue and ideas as we hear from local experts (from the Clinical Commissioning Group, Sheffield City Council and voluntary and community sector) as well as individuals’ stories ,what Sheffield organisations are doing to address financial hardship and what more could be done.
