ALLFIE's Looking for Young Learners to Make your Voices Heard

ALLFIE's Looking for Young Learners to Make your Voices Heard

The vision of the Alliance for Inclusive Education (ALLFIE) is ‘a world where inclusive education is a right not a struggle’ and they campaign for the inclusion of all Disabled learners in mainstream education. Education not Segregation is their motto.

Support for Independent living needs and control over what support remains has decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. ALLFIE feels that this has increased the levels of Disabled Young people’s isolation. In response to this, ALLFIE has created a project called ‘Our Voice’ to make Disabled Young people’s opinions heard , put them out there and address the ‘erasure’ of Young people’s education experiences.

ALLFIE recently completed Phase 1 of the project and you can find our more about the project and results so far here.

ALLFIE are starting Phase 2 of the project and are looking for more Disabled Young people, aged between 16 and 25, to join their online sessions and discussion topics on the following dates.

· 14th September, 5pm – Campaigning Workshop

· 21st September, 5pm – ‘Nothing about DYP without DYP’ Discussion on How to work with DPOs

· 26th October, 5pm – Introduction to Graeae Theatre

· 23rd November, 5pm – How can Disabled Young people support the Disability Rights Movement

Each session is free and will be held on Zoom for about an hour and half. There will also be a panel event on 7th December, facilitated and chaired by the Disabled Young people on the project.

If this project appeals to you and you’re interested in attending ALLFIE woudl love to hear from you. Please contact Armineh Soorenian, the Our Voice Project Co-Ordinator by emailing Armineh.soorenian@allfie.org.uk

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
