Acting Can Help Wellbeing

Acting Can Help Wellbeing

Anxiety is something we all experience and is the theme of Mental Health Awareness Week ( 15 – 21 May 2023 ). Find out what we can do to cope with feelings of anxiety here.

Learning to act or becoming involved in theatre can work wonders with your mental health, so why not sign up for some ‘drama for wellbeing’ sessions?

Rivelin Co, which describes itself as ‘a neighbourhood arts centre without walls’ and is based in Hillsborough and works across North Sheffield, has set up weekly classes to enable this

It describes itself as ‘a safe and supportive environment to have a go at drama, build your confidence and develop theatre-making skills.’ and takes place in The Pavilion in Hillsborough Park from 6-8pm on Thursdays. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome and there is a ‘pay what you can’ scheme which means you can go for free or give a donation if you are able to.

Rivelin Co say: “We make and curate arts activities and do civic and community work, just like a building-based arts centre, except our programme takes place in parks, supermarkets, community centres, high streets, car parks, empty shops, libraries, schools, and care homes – temporarily transforming them into theatres, cinemas, galleries, workshops, classrooms and forums.”

For further information you can email emily@rivelinco.org or you can join their mailing list to find out more about this and their other events.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
