A Really Smart Way To Help Out

A Really Smart Way To Help Out

A Sheffield charity is helping people to get dressed for success.

The Suit Works is run by a small team of staff, a board of trustees and volunteers supported by local and national businesses and organisations. They support unemployed people of all ages who are trying to get into work by offering a styling session and free smart interview appropriate clothing when they have the offer of a job interview and they do not have, or are unable to afford to buy anything suitable. Appointments to The Suit Works are by referral only by an employment advisor/support.

Clients are eligible when they have a confirmed job interview for a paid position including apprenticeships or have been successful but need smart wear for starting their new jobs.

Their website says: “We believe that giving clients a styling session and beautiful, good quality, clothing to attend their interview has a transformative effect on them and can significantly impact on their self esteem and self respect. We believe that this service is an important step for clients to help them in breaking down barriers to employment.

“We can also help clients to prepare by providing some informal interview skills training at the same time covering aspects such as body language, grooming, dealing with nerves and preparation or practical skills which may include something as simple as how to iron a shirt.”

There are several other ways to help. Items for general sale are available through The Boutique Works. you can donate money or clothes and there are also opportunities to volunteer.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
