Healthwatch Sheffield has engaged and supported more people than ever during 2018/19, according to its annual report.In the last year they heard from 3,270 people who spoke about their experiences of different areas of health and social care. That’s more than double the number that they saw the previous year. They also published 20 reports and briefings based on what they were told including 36 recommendations to providers and commissioners of health and social care.

An invitation has gone out from the NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group to attend their Annual General Meeting on Thursday July 11th from 2to 4pm to hear what the CCG has achieved over the past year, its challenges and plans for the future. The theme for this year is discussing your ideas for how to improve the health of the people of Sheffield, by providing more services closer to home.

People with ‘hidden disabilities’ will soon be able to get Blue Badge parking permits due to the biggest review of the scheme since it was set up almost half a century ago. The changes will ‘go live’ on 30 August 2019 and we will update our Disability Sheffield Blue Badge Factsheet nearer the time when full details are known.

We’ve totted up the money and the final figure for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Fundraising event was an amazing £400!! Once again a massive thank you from everyone at Disability Sheffield to The Barrel pub in Chapeltown, their wonderful landlady Steph Tate and her fab team, the stallholders, our amazing volunteers, staff members and trustees, all of whom helped to raise the profile of Disability Sheffield whilst generating much-appreciated funds.

The next meeting of the Disability Hub is on Thursday 27 June 2019 from 2-4pm at The Circle and we’d love to see you there. The Hub is one of the ways in which disabled people can have a greater say on the services and businesses disabled people interact with locally.By providing a platform for disabled people to represent their needs together it is hoped we can strengthen the move towards a more equitable society, where disabled people enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else.

Our lovely Advocacy Manager Lucy has a new job as Chief Officer for Healthwatch Sheffield. We are therefore looking to recruit a new advocacy manager. Our advocacy service supports disabled people to exercise their rights and be fully involved in decisions about their life. The Advocacy Manager is responsible for supporting and supervising the advocacy team, which delivers a range of advocacy (statutory and non-statutory) support as part of Sheffield Advocacy Hub.The closing date for applications is 8am on Monday 15th July 2019. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 23rd July 2019.
