People in Sheffield have shared their stories of mental health support in the city with Healthwatch Sheffield and Sheffield Flourish. You can read their individual stories about what worked well and what needs to improve and see recommendations for mental health service providers in this new report.

In preparation for the introduction of Mental Health classes in schools form September 2020, Mental Health Today have produced a glossary of terms to highlight how the language used around mental health can affect discussions about it. They say that many expressions seen in plans for mental health classes are at best problematic and could be at worst deeply damaging.

The National Survivor User Network are releasing a series of video posts by their members called #NSUNcovidlife .During the latest broadcast Clare Shaw, who is described as a ‘poet, performer and survivor’ reflects on lockdown. The NSUN has also launched a Covid-19 Fund to support user-led organisations and smaller, unconstituted community groups in England, who might not otherwise be eligible for a grant.

Sheffield IAPT’s (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) online course , looking at different emotional responses to the coronavirus outbreak, offers simple skills and techniques to help you cope with the outbreak. Each of the 4 sessions is around half an hour long with time after to ask questions and focuses on a different theme each week. The next course is scheduled to start on Thursday 7th May between 6-7pm.

Mental health charity Sheffield Flourish has launched three separate online resources to help people who may be affected by the coronavirus crisis saying “It is no surprise that service provision has changed right across the city, and indeed the country, as well as the creation of new services and support systems”.

This includes chair based workouts from Get Yourself Active and SIV home workouts now that the venues are closed and the Exercise Referral Scheme has been postponed.
