    New Guidance for Adults who have Down’s Syndrome

    Adults (18 and over) who have Down’s syndrome have been added to the group of people who are classed as clinically ‘extremely vulnerable’ and at higher risk from Coronavirus. In England GPs have been asked to contact patients affected by this decision to discuss what it means for them and their specific health needs. Check out resources from the Down’s Syndrome Association to help you stay safe and well.

    Magic from your Pen

    Our Magic Pen writing group in partnership with the Burton Street Foundation is a friendly online group for anyone with a learning disability who loves stories and having fun with words. Every week, on Fridays from 11am to 12noon we talk about different topics, have fun together and share our news. In every session, we will write poems and stories together, and there is always time to share your creative writing too. Here’s some fantastic writing from your magic pens so far!

    If you have a learning disability and love writing stories and expressing yourself, the Magic Pen Competition, a new category of the Sheffield Short Story Competition, is looking for entries. Your story must be about Sheffield and can be up to 500 words long. So get your Magic Pen out to win a book token and Henderson’s Relish goodies (very Sheffield!).     NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has produced a draft strategy for Sheffield which looks creatively at how people living with severe mental illness, learning disabilities, and autistic spectrum
    condition can be supported to have the best possible physical health and live longer and healthier lives. As part of finalising the strategy the CCG has launched a survey asking for your views, which closes on 7 August 2020.

    Join Us on Video to Talk About the Lockdown

    Hear what it’s really like being in lockdown from people with learning disabilities or autism as we discuss our experiences of being in isolation and invite you to take part. In our video members of the public join our learning disability group, Sheffield Voices, on webcam and talk about the good and the bad things about being in lockdown, social distancing and self isolating. When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
