Summer Residential for Film Fans

Showroom Cinema are looking for enthusiastic film fans aged 16-19 for their BFI Film Academy Summer Residential! You’ll gain experience and insight into indie cinema through workshops delivered by industry professionals. Plus, you’ll even get to put on your own film festival at Showroom Cinema! Disability Network Event Report

Our first Disability Network event at the Israac Centre in May was well attended and extremely successful in bringing together a diverse community of disabled people and partner organisations sharing their views about barriers. All their contributions have been put into an Easy Read Report. We’re holding more events in June and July. Come along to connect, chat + change!

Carers Week Events and Campaign

Carers UK aim to ‘put carers on the map’ during Carers Week from 10 – 16 June and is inviting unpaid carers to sign their open letter to the next Prime Minister calling for action including the reform and increase of Carers Allowance, to deliver a Carers strategy and recognise caring as the 10th protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. Sheffield Carers Centre events are taking place during the week.

Disability Rights groups all around the world have been celebrating the life of Robert Martin. whose campaigning and personal story shaped the movement and the life chances of disabled people all over the world. Robert, from New Zealand, was the only person with an intellectual disability to serve on the UN Committee for Rights of Persons with Disabilities. His advocacy was seen as trailblazing.

City Hosts Dysarthria Awareness Day

The world’s first ever Dysarthria Awareness Day was held in Sheffield recently. Dysarthria occurs when the muscles used to talk are weak or a person has difficulty controlling them. It most often results in slurred slow speech. Among those taking part was Disability Sheffield volunteer John Quinn.

Celebrating Deaf Awareness Week

We’re saying Hello to celebrate Deaf Awareness Week! This year’s theme, ‘BSL in Our Hands’ is about children’s education and access to the languages of BSL and English from an early age. There’s also a new report from the RNID saying the way deaf people are valued, supported and communicated with in our society really does matter. It matters to us too.

Your job role will include attending and co-delivering group sessions, workshops, and events.
