    Dementia Friendly Calendar of Activities .

    Did you know that since the first lockdown in March last year twenty four new online dementia friendly groups have started up in Sheffield? From Zoom Memory Cafés, to online exercise and Tai Chi Groups, dementia carers sessions and relaxation groups, virtual sessions for women and for men, online singing, creative writing and sporting memories groups – all available in a weekly calendar.

    Our Voices Call to Delay the Disability Strategy

    Disability Rights UK Our Voices, a group of organisations run by and for disabled people, including Disability Sheffield, is calling on the government to delay the Disability Strategy. The group has sent a letter to highlight their serious concerns about both the timetable and the methods used to engage with disabled people and their organisations. The Government have “listened to concerns and extended the deadline for contributions to be woven into the strategy to 28 February “.

    Free Resistance Training Bands

    Wheelpower has been providing opportunities in sport for people with physical impairments for over 70 years and is offering wheelchair users and physically disabled people a free set of resistance training bands to help you keep fit throughout lockdown. The bands can be used for the exercises featured in their Resistance Band Exercises for Wheelchair Users films or for yoga, warming up before exercising, strength training or physical therapy rehabilitation.

    Boxing Clever At Our Great New Activity

    They’ve done fitness, yoga and dance – now a bit of boxing is on the list of lockdown activities supplied by Sheffield Cycling 4 All. Boxercise 4 All starts on Monday February 15 between noon and1pm and is a fun, inclusive class for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions. It lasts around 50 minutes and is led by Beth from Jazzy B Fitness.

    Community Transport providers across South Yorkshire are offering a free return journey to a Covid-19 vaccination site to people, in high priority groups, who cannot access public transport and have no alternative way of getting there. They normally provide an alternative solution for residents who may find it difficult to access standard public transport, but now SYPTE has decided to use this vital resource to support people to get their jab.

    Sheffield LGBT+ Multi Agency Network

    The recently launched Sheffield LGBT+ Multi-Agency Network is a network of Sheffield based organisations, working together to represent and support Sheffield’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and other minority sexual and gender communities. The Network coordinate city wide events including LGBT+ History Month every February. Their next quarterly meeting is on Wednesday 24th February .

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
