Macmillan Cancer Support have published a ‘Cancer and Coronavirus – Know your rights ( in England ) Guide ‘explaining the care you should expect and what to do if you think you are not receiving the right care. “ We know it’s a difficult time for healthcare professionals but we also know that there are millions of people living with cancer who still need the right care, treatment and support. it’s vital that cancer diagnosis and treatment continues as much as possible”.

A group of ninety-three charities led by Carers UK submitted a joint letter to Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey in July calling for urgent extra financial support to unpaid carers to ensure “they are supported during the Coronavirus crisis and beyond.” Carers UK says that “Despite the huge contribution they make, too many carers and their families face financial hardship. Taking on a caring role can result in sharp reductions in income for families, due to the extra costs associated with caring; these pressures are further exacerbated when people feel they have no choice but to leave paid work to provide care unpaid.The Coronavirus crisis has only compounded the difficulties many carers face “

This one-off grant up to the value of £250 for people with Motor Neurone Disease can be used to cover additional living costs incurred as the result of lockdown, such as food shopping or bills. If you would like to apply, a simple form asks you to outline how COVID-19 has affected your income or finances. Other grants are available and the Association’s Benefits Advice Service can offer guidance about benefits and can assist with obtaining statutory funding or funding from other charitable organisations.

Moving Medicine have produced a range of resources that aim to help people take control of their COVID-19 recovery. The resources have been developed by doctors and medical experts with the help of COVID 19 patients, and includes a handy tips patient information leaflet, active recovery workbook, and exercise programmes.

Pride in Sheffield was formed in 2019 . Their committee is dedicated to delivering a great Pride for the community, working with local and national LGBTQ+, BAME & Trans community groups, partners and sponsors to organise Pride events all year round. The elections for all their committee roles are now open if you wish to nominate yourself and a Q&A with former committee members it taking place on Thursday 13 Aug over Zoom. From 8 August face coverings need to be worn in additional indoor settings, unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering. We’re reminding you that Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield, in his July video ,explained the importance of wearing face coverings correctly with continued social distancing and hygiene. He emphasised that the most important ways to control the pandemic are to stay at home if you have symptoms, keep your distance where possible, wash your hands frequently and wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces if you are able to do so.

Everyone knows current welfare benefits are failing, but what would be a better approach? The Commission on Social Security ,set up by welfare system users to suggest ways in which it can be improved, has issued an invitation to an online event to discuss their proposals on Wednesday August 12 from 7 to 8.30pm. All the Commissioners are Experts by Experience. This means they each have lived experience of the benefits system and come from a range of claimant/user-led groups and Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations.

Sheffield City Council have launched a survey asking for your views about short-term care for older people. The information from this survey will be used to help Sheffield City Council produce a short-term care strategy for older people. The survey closes on 25th September.The consultation is primarily for unpaid carers, social care workers and anyone using short-term care to complete.
