From 6 April 2017 it will be illegal for taxi drivers to discriminate against wheelchair users. Taxi and private hire vehicle drivers face a fine of up to £1,000 if they refuse to transport wheelchair users or attempt to charge them extra.

A special piece of artwork and outdoor mural to celebrate the Special Olympics National Games in Sheffield in August 2017 was unveiled on St Valentine’s day in Sheffield City Centre. The final piece of art will be 8 feet tall and 16 feet wide and erected on the hoardings of Sheffield Hallam University – on the current building construction opposite the main train station in the city centre until the end of the Games.

The new signage recognises and hopes to make people aware that many people who need accessible facilities have ‘hidden disabilities’ like Crohn’s disease, autism, anxiety, and inflammatory bowel disease and can use disabled facilities without facing criticism from other shoppers.
