  • New Face Mask Rules

    New Face Mask Rules

    From 30 Nov 2021 it is compulsory for people in England to wear a face covering ( if you are able to wear one ) on all public transport, including taxis and private hire vehicles and in shops ( and public facing areas ). The new ruling has been put in place by the UK government to limit the spread of the new Omicron COVID-19 variant. Disability Sheffield has issued a new video warning that the Coronavirus crisis has not come to an end yet and warning people to continue to take precautions.

  • The Magic Pen Is Back

    The Magic Pen Is Back

    The Magic Pen writing group has been relaunched, offering people with learning disabilities and autism the chance to put their thoughts into writing. The free group, supported by Sheffield Voices is run by people with learning disabilities and supported by experienced professional writers and volunteers. It has moved to an afternoon slot of 2-3pm every Friday, starting on December 3rd.

    LaughAble Night For Disabled Comedians Like Jamie

    Jamie Preece, a volunteer with Sheffield Cycling 4 All, part of Disability Sheffield, is one of the performers taking part in a show on Monday 29 November starting at 7.30 organised by LaughAble. The monthly comedy club showcases performers with disabilities and mental health conditions and aims to make performing and viewing accessible to everyone, with some shows taking place online and captioned.

    Household Support Fund

    Now that funding has been used up for the Covid-19 Emergency Assistance Grant, this month sees the launch of a new Household Support Fund, established by the Department for Work and Pensions. The fund supports people most in need this winter during the final stages of economic recovery mainly with food and housekeeping costs, gas and electrity and white goods.

    Amid continuing concerns about the problems being experienced by disabled people making claims, the Work and Pensions Committee has launched a survey to hear about first-hand experiences of claiming PIP or ESA.It is open to everyone who has had an assessment to claim PIP or who has had a Work Capability Assessment, either to claim ESA or as part of a Universal Credit claim.The survey is open until mid February 2022

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
