A Sheffield charity which helps unemployed people to get dressed for success has opened its own online boutique of pre-loved clothing for sale to boost their income. The Suit Works support unemployed people of all ages who are trying to get into work by giving them a styling session, informal interview skills and free smart interview appropriate-clothing .

Sheffield citizens with experience of adult social care are invited to be be central to Sheffield City Council’s customer experience programme, identifying what is working well, what isn’t and what improvements should be made. The Council will be holding its first online meeting on Friday 4th June presenting the information gathered so far and talking through how people might want to be involved.

A Sheffield man living with dementia is appearing on the air with a mixture of music and help with knowing your rights. Howard Gordon has secured slots on Deepness Dementia Radio, an internet station, based on the Isle of Harris. The station features shows by and with people living with dementia. During May Howard is presenting a weekly two-hour rock show in support of World Rocks Against Dementia 2021.

The Government’s roadmap out of lockdown calendar moves onto a further stage today as part of the country’s slow easing out of Covid restrictions. This includes shops and indoor hospitality re-opening and up to 6 people or 2 households being able to meet indoors. We are proud that stories from service users and volunteers at Disability Sheffield are among those providing evidence in a new national report highlighting inequalities that certain communities including disabled people face, when accessing parks and natural spaces near to where they live. The report ‘Out of Bounds:Equity in Access to Urban Nature’ is compiled by the National Outdoors For All Working Group.

Congratulations to our very own advocate and Sheffield campaigner, Anne Everson ,who has spoken of her success in ensuring more of the city’s polling stations are accessible to disabled people. Anne started her campaign three years. Due to her efforts and just before the elections took place this week Walkley Library polling station was moved to Ebenezer Methodist Church and the Hallamshire Tiles polling station was moved to Crookesmoor Lifelong Learning Centre.
