Now that we’re officially easing out of lockdown, Sheffield’s ‘Make Yourself at Home’ is a collection of stories and updates showcasing what Sheffield has to offer over Spring, including events, making the most of our outdoor city, drinks and dining places and local delivery providers.Plus Beat the Street is coming soon to transform Sheffield into a giant game which you can play from 16 June – 28 July.

Sheffield Cycling 4 All is getting back to park life with group and solo sessions taking place in Hillsborough Park due to the relaxation of lockdown regulations and online activities are still taking place for those who may not be able to get out. There are now Saturday sessions on the last Saturday of each month, starting this Saturday (24th April). You can check out their new videos as well.

Inquest into Tragic Death of Local Disabled Woman

The Guardian has reported on an inquest taking place at Sheffield Town Hall into the tragic death of a young woman with learning disabilities. Laura Booth stopped eating after she was admitted to the Royal Hallamshire hospital for a routine eye operation in October 2016 after her attempts at communication were, her family says, ignored by clinicians.

Consultation on Compulsory Vaccination of Care Home Staff

The government is seeking views on a proposal to make COVID-19 vaccination a condition of deployment in older adult care homes.This would mean older adult care home providers could only use those staff who have received the COVID-19 vaccination (or those with a legitimate medical exemption) in line with government guidance.The deadline for responding to the consultation is Friday 21 May 2021.

Twice Weekly Coronavirus Testing for PAs

The government has published updated guidance on how personal assistants ( PAs ) working in adult social care in England can access twice weekly Covid-19 testing. Personal assistants will be eligible for testing if they provide care that requires them to come within 2 metres of an adult over the age of 18 who they support.Personal assistants should order a box of 7 lateral flow tests (LFTs) every 21 days for themselves, or an employer can order test kits on their behalf and all test results must be registered.

Testing for Coronavirus if you are Symptom Free

Everyone in England without symptoms of Coroavirus is able to take a free rapid Coronavirus (COVID-19) test twice a week from 9 April.You can now order Coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid lateral flow tests online. Please do not use lateral flow tests if you have any Covid symptoms (a high temperature, a cough that won’t stop, or a loss/change in taste/smell) when you should self isolate and book a Coronavirus test or order a home test kit.

Disability Becomes Unionised!

What is claimed to be the first union set up in the United Kingdom ‘by and for disabled people’ has launched a recruitment campaign. The Disability Union was set up at the end of last year by George Baker and Joel Jordan who share an urge to increase inclusion by getting people to work together and support each other.

Caroline Riding High With TV Appearance

Caroline Waugh, a volunteer at Sheffield Cycling 4 All, a project run by Disability Sheffield, can be seen on the screen tonight when her trusty but rusty trike – which she used while carrying the Olympic Torch a decade ago – gets a makeover .Caroline is appearing on BBC2 show Saved And Remade, in which much-loved but unused objects are transformed into new items. Can’t wait to see what’s made for you Caroline!

Muslims Encouraged to have Vaccine during Ramadan

Sheffield NHS CCG has launched a campaign ahead of Ramadan to raise awareness that having the Covid vaccine does not break your fast.Local Muslim faith leaders, working in partnership with the CCG and Sheffield City Council, are spreading the message that getting vaccinated while fasting is allowed in Islam.
