We See It's Learning Disability Week!

Learning Disability Week from 16 to 20th June and led by Mencap, makes sure the world hears what life is like if you, or someone you know, has a learning disability. It raise awareness, challenges stigma and celebrates the talents and contributions of people who have a learning disability.

In 2025, the theme of Learning Disability Week is “Do You See Me?”. The theme aims to highlight the importance of visibility, representation and understanding and is a call to the public to acknowledge, respect and empower individuals who have a learning disability, ensuring they are seen, heard and valued within their communities.

ArtWorks , who believe in the power of creativity to foster inclusion, has worked closely with Sheffield City Council to produce a range of events and activities to raise awareness for Learning Disability Week. They include a launch party in the Town Hall, workshops in the Peace Gardens, events showcasing services , music and leisure activities and a final midsummer festival closing party. Our own Sheffield Voices learning disability self advocacy group will be at the Town Hall on Tuesday 17 June as part of the Meet Sheffield Services event.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
