The Young Carers Activity Fund gives carers aged under 18 a break

The Young Carers Activity Fund is designed to give young carers aged under 18 a break from their caring role and to give them a choice about how they take this break.

The fund is currently administered by Sheffield Young Carers (SYC) on behalf of Sheffield City Council.

Please note: Sheffield Young Carers provides breaks from caring for its members so this fund is only available for young carers who are NOT currently accessing or on the waiting list for Sheffield Young Carers’ funding.

Applications MUST be completed by a professional who is working with the young carer, with the consent and involvement of the young carer and their parent/guardian.
The closing dates for applications for 2018-19 are 5pm on:

  • Friday 12th October 2018
  • Friday 8th February 2019

You can submit applications at any time. You will then be emailed to say they have received your application for consideration at the next panel (approx one week after each closing date).

PLEASE NOTE: To avoid disappointment, please be aware that this fund is limited and they can only allocate a small number of grants per year. If you are not successful, however, they will give you feedback about why and you can apply again in the future.

For full application criteria and guidance, download the Young Carers Activity Fund Application Form and Guidance Notes

*Carers aged over 18 can apply for a Time for a Break fund from Sheffield Carers Centre.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
