The City’s provider of adult hospital and community health services, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have provided an update on how they are managing the COVID-19 outbreak.
The update aims to provide reassurance and clarity to people in Sheffield unsure about how their local health service is coping during the Coronavirus outbreak.
The update was published on the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Facebook page and provides a number of illuminating insights in to the current state of Coronavirus care in Sheffield.
The update states that “The consensus seems to be that we are seeing a slight slowing of the virus spread as a result of social distancing, which makes it all the more important we all continue to stick to the current rules about not going out unless it is essential.”
“Despite the slowdown we are mindful that we have still not hit the peak of the pandemic in our region … [however] we had already planned for the numbers expected and so we are ready.”
Plans to increase provision for critical care beds (those requiring ventilation) from 35 beds to 250 beds are also detailed; as is information on Coronavirus testing for NHS Sheffield staff, as well as how the Coronavirus has affected the provision of hospital services such as surgeries.
