Shaw Trust reveal Britain's 100 most influential disabled people for 2018

Every year Shaw Trust publish their Power 100 list, a celebration of the 100 most influential and inspirational disabled people in Britain.

Shaw Trust’s work with the power 100 list aims to change perceptions of disability, tackle social exclusion and provide role models for the young and talented leaders of tomorrow.

This years nominees have come from a diverse range of sectors and have been nominated by members of the public, colleagues and people inspired by their stories.

The 2018 Power 100 list includes disabled people from a large range of sectors, including Arts, Fashion & Design, Business, Finance & IT, Entertainment, Politics & Law, Sport and the Third Sector.

The list also includes a touching In Memoriam section which includes dedications to Sir Bert Massie CBE, Stephen Hawking CBE, Dean Jose and Lorraine Gradwell MBE.

The Top Ten most influential disabled people profiled in the list highlights the wide range of sectors where disabled people are leading the way with actor Warwick Davis, Baroness Jane Campbell and Paralympic champion Jonnie Peacock MBE all making an appearance.

The honour of Britain’s most influential disabled person of 2018 goes to TV presenter Alex Brooker (pictured.) Brooker, whose TV career famously began with his role as a presenter during Channel 4’s 2012 Paralympics, is perhaps best known for his co-host role on Channels 4’s The Last Leg. The series, which takes a sideways view at the news, was so successful that it was renewed after it’s initial run during the Paralympics.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
