ROFA’s Submission to the Lords Select Committee Inquiry on the Equality Act and Disability

Reclaiming Our Futures (ROFA) is an alliance of grass roots groups and disabled peoples’ organisations (DPOs) across the UK who have come together to defend disabled people’s rights and fight for an inclusive society. ROFA held a conference “ What Now for Disability Equality” at the Circle in Sheffield in July. This written submission has been drafted specifically to address the impact of the Equality Act 2010 on Disabled people’s independent living.Disability Sheffield are part of this response as a member of ROFA. The submission gives examples of how equality of opportunity for disabled people is regressing as a result of government policy and makes recommendations to progress disability equality and protect disabled people’s right to independent living in domestic legislation. Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
