Right to Participate Launch and Equality Act Video

Disability Rights UK have launched their new Right to Participate website in partnership with the Legal Education Foundation.

The Right to Participate project aims to increase awareness of the Equality Act, especially the ways it can protect disabled people from discrimination in everyday situations.

As part of the project they have created a special Right to Participate video animation which they encourage everyone, disabled or not, to watch and listen to.

The Right to Participate website has a dedicated Take Action section containing ‘guided pathways’ through three areas:- Education, Employment and Out-and-About. Following the drop-down menus will take users to information detailing how they can positively assert their rights in each of the three areas.

The Resources section of the website contains templates for writing complaints letters, as well as videos showing how disabled people have campaigned to improve participation in the past.

A Forum is also currently in development, which will allow users to share their experiences of the barriers they have faced, connect with others for support and share experiences of using the Equality Act. If you have any ideas of other ways to help people understand how to use the law then send your ideas to: RtP@disabilityrightsuk.org..

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
