Lockdown Easing Starts on 4th July

Lockdown Easing Starts on 4th July

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced further changes to lockdown measures in England, which the BBC say will “enable people to see more of their friends and family, help businesses get back on their feet and get people back in their jobs.”

From Saturday 4th July pubs, restaurants and hairdressers will be able to reopen, providing they adhere to COVID Secure guidelines.

Distancing guidelines

  • Where it is not possible to stay 2m apart, people should keep a distance of “one metre plus” – this means staying one metre apart, while observing precautions to reduce the risk of transmission.

How can I reduce my risk with ’1 metre plus’ social distancing?

  • Wear a mask in busy places and on public transport
  • Wash or sanitise hands often
  • Don’t stand or talk face to face
  • When possible, use apps/internet for ordering food when possible

What is reopening in England on 4 July?

  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Holiday accomodation
  • Museums and galleries
  • Cinemas
  • Hairdressers
  • Children’s playgrounds

What will remain closed in England?

  • Nightclubs and casinos remain closed, along with bowling alleys, spas, swimming pools, indoor gyms and soft play centres
  • Theatres and concert halls will not be able to host live performances

Meeting other households

  • In England, two households of any size will be able to meet indoors or outside and stay overnight.
  • This does not have to be the same set of households.
  • Meetings of multiple households indoors should be avoided because of the risk of infection.
  • Two households meeting should maintain social distancing – unless they were part of the same support bubble.
  • Outdoors, people from multiple households can meet in groups of up to six – but two households can meet regardless of size.
  • From 6 July, people who are clinically vulnerable and are “shielding” will be able to gather in groups of up to six people outdoors, including individuals outside of their household, and form a ‘support bubble’ with one other household.

Easy Read

The updated guidance for people classed as clinically extremely vulnerable will be published on 6 July and 1 August as these measures come into force.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
