Disability Sheffield has utilised the Skills for Care Workforce Development Innovation Fund to create training and resources for practitioners, family carers, personal assistants ( PAs ) and disabled people focused on safe alternatives to restraint. It includes information about minimising restraint practices and training to use restraint safely when and where needed. The ‘Safer Restraint’ project is one of the first in England to assess the needs of people employing their own care and support (individual employers), their PAs, family carers and practitioners to develop practical and accessible information, training and support planning for safer restraint. Disability Sheffield has produced a practical leaflet called Let’s Talk About Restraint and this, along with the project case study is available from the ‘Employing your own Care Support’ section of Skills for Care’s Learn from Others resource .
