Learning Disability Week Coming Soon

This year on 20-26 June Mencap are celebrating the vital role friendships play in people with a learning disability being included in society. People with a learning disability can find it difficult to make friends, and still often face isolation and exclusion from everyday activities, and your support is needed to help this change. You might want to volunteer to be a Mencap Sidelick . For more information and to find out how you can get involved in Learning Disability Week 2016, click here.. Sheffield Health and Social Care will be running their annual Big Health Event as part of Learning Disability Week again this year. The event will take place at St Mary’s Church on Brammal Lane, on 22 June.
The Big Health Event highlights the services and support on offer for people with a learning disability, and their carers. Anyone can take part in the event. If you think you can make a difference to clients with a learning disability or their family, and you belong to an organisation (or know of an individual who might be able to help out), and would like to get involved please email Ian Read at Ian.Read@shsc.nhs.uk

Our LD service “All About YOU” would be interested in having a stall at the Learning Disability Week event at St Mary’s Church on the 22nd June. Please could you sign post me in to the direction of who I need to contact to arrange this?

    Many Thanks

    Vicki Ambler

    Hi Ian,
Are you doing the events in Sheffield that you usually do to mark this event? Like the 5 a side football and other sports? I work as the equality and Diversity Lead for Freeman College and we have some students with learning disabilities who would be interested. I can’t find the list of what’s on. Please can you help me.

    Thanks

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference
